New DNRF Chair grant for AU with econometric theory and method in focus

Aarhus University has received one of the Danish National Research Foundation’s latest funding instruments, the DNRF Chair, with Professor Morten Ørregaard Nielsen at the forefront. Professor Nielsen’s research on econometric theory and methods is used in the analysis of data in economics and related disciplines where it is necessary to deal with complicated dependence structures. The DNRF Chair was created in 2020 with the overall purpose of strengthening Danish research communities by bringing both international and Danish researchers to Denmark.

The foundation launched its latest funding instrument, the DNRF Chair, at the beginning of 2020 with the overall purpose of strengthening Danish research communities by bringing both international and Danish researchers to Denmark. This grant is the sixth to be awarded and the second one that Aarhus University has received. This Chair grant will go to Professor Morten Ørregaard Nielsen, who will use the grant to support his research in econometric theory and methods, which are used in the analysis of data in economics and related disciplines. Professor Nielsen’s research program will focus on two main types of statistical dependence.

“I’m very thrilled to have received a DNRF Chair grant. It is a big acknowledgement of my research career and the importance of science. And with this grant I get a unique environment in which to continue my research career in Denmark and at Aarhus University,” said Professor Nielsen.

The DNRF plans to continue the DNRF Chair instrument through December 2024, and the foundation foresees awarding about three DNRF Chair grants annually. Starting in 2021, each Danish university can submit two applications for each of the three annual application rounds, which means every university can submit six applications in 2021.

“The Danish National Research Foundation’s latest funding instrument, the DNRF Chair, is an excellent initiative that really makes a difference when it comes to attracting top international researchers. We are very happy and proud that Professor Morten Ø. Nielsen is now returning to Aarhus University and will draw on his vast experience with the leading North American research environments,” said Niels Haldrup, head of the Department of Economics and Business Economics at Aarhus University.

The grants will be awarded by the DNRF board following one public call annually. Each call consists of three rounds per year. Normally, only one or two grants per round will be awarded.
