Stefan Hecht
I am fully convinced about the importance of fundamental research as it provides us with the knowledge base for informed decision making that is crucial for societal progress. The Danish research landscape is unique with its strong foundations dedicated to foster science, education, and innovation. Among them, the Danish National Research Foundation plays a prominent role and I am deeply impressed by its strategic focus on Centers of Excellence and its commitment to support outstanding basic research. Therefore, I am humbled by the honor to serve on the foundation’s board and I am looking forward to contribute to its important mission with my personal experience.
My background is in chemistry and after my undergraduate and graduate studies in Berlin and Berkeley, respectively, I established an interdisciplinary research program in materials chemistry. Over the years, I gathered broad experience in leading positions at various universities and non-university research institutions. Particularly relevant, I participated in numerous research projects and consortia, led evaluations and research assessments, continue to serve as an associate editor and on editorial boards. Additionally, I was involved in founding a spin-off company that commercializes a 3D printing technology with great potential.
