The Leonidas Zervas Award goes to a Chemist at a Center of Excellence

Every second year, the European Peptide Society awards the Leonidas Zervas Award. This year, the award will be bestowed upon Knud J. Jensen, a group leader at Centre for Carbohydrate Recognition and Signaling (CARB) and professor at the University of Copenhagen’s Department of Chemistry.

Knud J. Jensen receives the Prize at the opening ceremony of the 32nd European Peptide Symposium, September 2, 2012. It marks the second time in the Award’s 25-year history that a Dane is the recipient of the Zervas Award.

CARB also receives acknowledgement for results within other areas of the center’s research agenda. Researchers from the center publish their latest result in the recognized journal PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences).

The article describes the first step in understanding the perception process used by plants to distinguish beneficial microorganisms like nitrogen fixing rhizobia from bacterial and fungal pathogens.
