‘Microscopic Spectrum of the Wilson Dirac Operator’ article of Professor Poul Henrik Damgaard

Professor Poul Henrik Damgaard, Head of the Theory Group of the Discovery Center and member of the center’s Steering Committee, has just published ‘Microscopic Spectrum of the Wilson Dirac Operator’ in the prestigious Physical Review Letters. In this paper he and two collaborators describes the discovery of a novel relation between the excitation modes of the quarks that form protons in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN and infinite-dimensional matrices. The result provides an entirely new way to determine low-energy parameters of the theory of strong interactions. Work at the Discovery Center now aims at extending this new result to even more detailed descriptions of the interactions governing quarks at the LHC.
