Other funding mechanisms

Scientific breakthroughs and discussions have always taken place in an international context. It is the nature of science to be international in its outlook, and therefore, it is natural for exceptional research to be carried out with international collaboration that involves experts from all over the world. With a vision of Denmark as a research nation, able to assert itself in global competition and to create the foundation of future growth and prosperity, a research environment that attracts top researchers at home and from abroad is of utmost importance. The majority of the foundation’s centers are characterized by a high degree of internationalization. Thus, in 2011 at the foundation’s centers, approximately one third of the researchers were from abroad. But the foundation has also launched many other initiatives to aid the internationalization of Danish research. These initiatives may be characterized as either recruitment initiatives as in the Niels Bohr Professors, or collaboration initiatives as in the Danish-Chinese Research Centers.
