Centre for Epigenetics discover a functional link between genes

Researchers from Centre for Epigenetics show a functional link between genes involved in X-linked mental retardation. The new results were published March 24 in Molecular Cell.

Discovery of a functional link between genes involved in X-linked mental retardation X-linked mental retardation affects around 1 out of 600 men worldwide and is caused by mutations in genes on the X-chromosome. The disease is associated with mutations in more than 82 genes, and the molecular basis is therefore highly complex.  Now researchers from the lab of Professor Kristian Helin at BRIC, University of Copenhagen, have shown how three genes on the X-chromosome, PHF8, ZNF711 and JARID1C interact in patients with mental retardation. The new results were published March 24 in the prestigious journal Molecular Cell.
