Jesper Wengel awarded research prize

Professor Wengel recieves the prize for his research within DNA-chemistry. Along with a research group, Jesper Wengel is the man behind the molecule known as LNA: “Locked Nucleic Acid”. The team has uniquely combined basic research with innovation, and their contribution benifits the scientific community as well as the wider public. LNA is useful due to its fantastic property of being able to turn off many genes, but its use goes further than just aiding the understanding of life’s myserties. LNA is also used in the develpment of improved medication for the treatment of cancer and infections, among others.
